K.A. Mielke (he/they) is the author of Victory Lap, Losing Hit Points. They love drinking too much coffee, writing about monsters, and dreaming up queer heroes

About

Kristopher Avery Mielke grew up in bars, abandoned buildings, and forests in Gretna, Louisiana, USA, and Bright and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. They currently live in the countryside (still in Ontario), where they enjoy watching the bats at dusk, and wondering what’s making that strange cry in the woods at night. They began writing stories to demonize booger-eating bullies in kindergarten, and have not stopped writing self-inserts and using personal trauma for entertainment purposes ever since.

Easily distracted and unsatisfied by one genre alone, Kristopher writes a little bit of everything, from comics about a talking cactus detective to middle grade fantasy about how goblins are pretty neat. Usually, though, their stories star queer heroes, feature monsters terrible, awesome, or just kinda gross, and include much Anxiety.

Since 2013, Kristopher has had a number of fantasy and horror short stories published in various magazines and anthologies. In December, 2020, they self-published their debut novel, Victory Lap, with co-writer Riley Alexis Wood. Kristopher’s next book, Losing Hit Points, was released by Lorimer Kids in February, 2024.
